• Shoppers who said they bought organic food in the past month dropped to 19 per cent, against 24 per cent in 2008.
• A quarter of consumers purchased ‘Fairtrade’, almost three times more than 2006.
• The number of shoppers buying locally produced food has almost doubled in the last three years to 27 per cent.
• The proportion who regard country of origin as important increased to 23 per cent, against 16 per cent in 2006.
• A fifth are concerned with the distance food travels, double that of three years ago.
• The number who know about the standards of animal welfare doubled to 20 per cent.
• Almost half (46 per cent) mentioned animal living conditions when asked about concerns relating to food production, up from 30 per cent
